I’ve been on the hunt for quite a while for a larger arbor press specifically for broaching. I have an old 2tn Jet arbor press that did great for all my projects so far but doesn’t have the umph or stroke for 8mm or 3/8 broaches. The other day this popped up and it was kinda rusty looking so I didn’t look close. But went back and took a closer look and it’s might be technically an antique as Manley made these until like the 20’s when they went hydraulic. I’d never even seen one but after taking dive looking it up it seems like just what I’m looking for replacing my Jet. Looks to be in the 20tn range. Being mechanical it will still have some feel but way more umph and plenty of stroke. I’m going Saturday to check it out and baring major defects I’ll be adding to my Old Iron collection.

That's a pretty cool looking tool there, Tony. Hope you get it!!!
Thanks Mike. There’s a lot of rust there and I didn’t really know what I was looking at until I found some restored ones on the “other” machining site. It looks intact and like somebody kept oil on the “works”. I’ll post more if it comes home.

Look ma, I got Manley! Everything looked good to me so we popped into the PU. I messed with it a little bit and the direct and multiplier mechanisms work. Looks like somebody made a new pawl and there’s no spring to hold it in. No big deal, can hold in by hand. The multiplier really makes a difference. Got a chance to spend 5min on the tag and it looks like it real brass and going to clean up nice.

Excellent old press.

Both Manley and Manly!

Congratulations.

Thanks Brino. I just found the sale pamphlet from 1920 and shows that exact press. Turns out they were all the same just different frames for different work and rated at 22tn. What’s hilarious is it was $88 then. I paid $100 :)

No way! That gives me the creeps just looking at it. I was looking through that catalog again and I thought mine was the 26”, it’s the one nex to it, the 32”. It was $99 in 1920!

I also found a complete catalog before I found this partial on Amazon on a book seller. Be interesting to see what’s in it when it gets here.

I certainly would NOT be doing this with the Princess Auto/Harbor Freight hoist; no matter the rating!

I’m hoping that the advertisement has been altered by the advertising companies illustrators. I say that because it looks like the hook is directly in line with the front casters. You’d have to get Larry, Curly and Moe to stand on the back so it doesn’t flip over.

By the way...forgot to mention that I really like that press. Really cool.
