My Atlas 618 Lathe came without a faceplate...the spindle threads are 1-10 tpi. In an effort to purchase a faceplate, I am able to locate many for the Atlas 618 that has the 1-8tpi. I was wondering if there is a way to adapt a faceplate made for another lathe or model with different threads to mine?Does anyone know if adapters can be purchased? I have done my best to search for solutions but have been unsuccessful to this point. I'd be grateful for any assistance...Thanks...Mike

Your case is rather difficult because your spindle and the faceplates you want to adapt have the same 1" diameter. You would be better off finding a faceplate that is not threaded, or has larger threads like the 1.5x8tpi on larger craftsman lathes or has smaller threads. If you have to start with a 1-8tpi faceplate I would thread a piece of round stock to 1-8tpi and silver solder this into the faceplate. Then bore and thread to 1-10tpi. Another option would be to bore and thread the faceplate to a larger size. Then make an adapter with 1-10tpi. Or weld up the 1-8tpi and bore and thread for 1-10tpi. More than one way to do this. As they say the best method all depends on what you have to work with.

Joel has one for sale at mymachineshop— not cheap but you could always email him and see if he has one for sale singly.

The 10 tpi version comes up on ebay from time to time usually for around 50$ US-

Thank you for your replies. I like the suggestions if I have to adapt or fabricate a faceplate. Also, I clicked on the same item at my machine shop to put it in my basket (to buy it) and an alert popped up advising that it had already been sold...I also acknowledge that if I'm patient, one might come available soon online somewhere. Again, thank you for all replies....Mike
