1942 3 Phase 440 Motor?

Is anyone using this monster for powering their lathe with a VFD? Seems sketchy. I can amost smell the ozone!!

Personally I wouldn't. The older motors don't work too well with the waveform from a vfd.

Maybe some context as to what you want to do. Bigger issue is 440V would require a step up transformer, then VFD and then A dV/dT filter before the motor. Better and cheaper to replace the motor if plan to run off of 240vac.
 
Any idea on whay type motor would replace this unit? Seems like there are many to choose from. I will be turning some brass as well as 3" chromoly tube.
 
First you have to find something that physically fits the machine you have, preferably without making adapter mounting brackets or such. But beyond that you have a lot of options. From the rating, and based on what you want to do a 2 or 3 hp will probably work.
