I was unable to find an elevating screw and nut for my grinder for less than $4,000 so I decided to make my own. Here's a picture of my latest project. I bought a 3/4-8 Left hand Acme Tap for $50 and the materials for the screw and nut for $100. Time, patience and perseverance and here is the result.2L Elevating Screw and Nut.JPG

Very nice, not an easy job with lots of different features. Did you buy the acme threaded rod or thread the entire thing from a blank?

Thank you. I bought 1-1/2 diameter round 2' long. The hex is 1-3/16 which I cut with the 4th axis on my mill and ground an 1-9/16 radius tool to cut the radius at the bottom of the hex. All the threads were lathe cut. The acme, because of its length required some finagling to get a good snug fit for the nut. Time, patience and perseverance.
