3 Stage Snow Blower Restoration

Well, restoration also includes upgrades and modifications. I "restored" this 1974 snow blower last summer. Hard to tell from the before photo, but those are the factory colors. The exception being the handle bars, They were once chrome from the factory. The original engine was a 2 shaft Tecumseh H-60. The new engine is a HF 346cc Predator (11hp). I had to convert it over to a 2 shaft engine. I have 7 snow blowers. A 1964 three stage machine is on tap for this spring. --- John

thats a brute, almost too pretty to even use. how does a two shaft engine get to be that way ? a pair of output shafts off the pto end ? or one off each end ?

The factory Tecumseh 2 shaft engine is nothing more than an extension of the factory camshaft, which sticks out through the side cover, just like the main PTO. It turns at half the speed of the main PTO and in the opposite direction. My challenge was to create the same crankshaft/camshaft gearing found in a 2 shaft H-60, and make it as an add-on gearbox for my engine. I was able to use the side cover, crankshaft gear, and a camshaft (with the cam lobes machined off) from a Tech. H-60, as the main components. All 3 had to me modified. Also had to make a back plate for it all to mount on. It is all on ball bearings and has its own oil sump.--- John
