3D Printers

I have CR-10. Out of the box it is great for making doo-dads in PLA. The stock hot end is limited to 240c so it limits the types of filament you can use. I changed mine to a E3d-v6 all metal hot end. Getting good prints with PETG now. Micro Swiss also makes a kit to convert the stock hot end to all metal.

I also upgraded to the dual Z stepper but I did not find any observable difference in my prints. Getting the tension set on the linear rollers makes more of a difference. You can also belt drive a second lead screw which I think is a better alternative and much less cost to do.

For me vendor or factory support are not a concern. There is enough of them out there that finding support from online forums is easy enough. They are simple devices and replacement parts are relatively cheap.

I went with the CR-10 because of the print envelope. For $400 I think it is a good value for a first printer. I will be building my next one and giving the CR-10 to my daughter.
