4-Jaw is completed

Doing a bunch of cast iron parts for a steam engine. Washed my hands in the kitchen sink one day and the iron dust stained the plates sitting in the sink with rust. Can’t get it off.

Use some diluted HCl acid - the rust virtually evaporates.

Yikes!
As my first foray into making chips they covered my hands in black oily mess.

Cut CI dry. I did some large CI nuts last week and used a vacuum cleaner to keep the dust out of my lungs (most of it). My hands were black as coal at the end of the day.

Even under my fingernails to this day, I can still see black!

I did cut it dry, just seemed like it had some sort of lubrication factor to it. Graphite perhaps?

One thing I'm not happy about is that that when turning it to final diameter I broke through the counterbores for the mounting bolts.

You might want to fill those with JB Weld, or similar. Or one day, you will put your hand back there and loose chunks of it like it being run thru a cheese grater.

I spotted a nice Shoda live center . Who needs a MT5 set for their new to me lathe ?

Not me :)
I have MT3 tapers :p
