I think I saw a similar repair done on a large chuck in our shared use facility. It is difficult to get good penetration with a TIG weld, and it shows. But the weld looked strong and the chuck held the piece just fine. It was not turned quite concentrically, however, but it was good enough for me. My membership has lapsed, and Lent is here so no more fiddling for awhile.
