I know that it is subjective, but I'm gonna ask it anyway.
This is for people that have both 9x20 and 7x10/12/14 lathes. I have the 7x12 with metal gears lathe and its noise level about 80dB not while cutting but just running at full speed. I'm thinking about getting a 9x20 lathe. Is 9x20 noisier than 7x12 with metal gears?
My shop is in the spare bedroom and I don't use my machines in the middle of the night, but I don't want to annoy my neighbors if the 9x20 noise can be heard outside.
Thanks

I've owned two Grizzly 9x20s. They were pretty quiet while running. They're belt driven, both in high and low range. Engaging the power feed/threading gears did produce a bit of noise, but less than my Grizzly 12x24. If you're careful about vibration isolation between the stand and the floor, you should be OK.

Hman, thank you for your help. I'm moving forward with getting the 9x20 G4000

If its anything like my 9x20 when you receive it be prepared to strip totally, clean, adjust etc.
Read the two "Cletus" booklets that can be found here
They are probably the bible for the 9x20.
You may have to join to access.
