I am trying to figure out how to machine A 36 steel. I am trying not to guess at speed and feeds any more. I bought me one of them that there fancy machinist calculators. I does not list A36 . The little machinist does not list it either . I know it has to have another name or something. Can anyone tell what to look for?

Thank you for responding. So I can use 1018 as a guide?

I'd say, yes, it is not the most pleasant material to machine as compared the the free machining steels, but it does not present any difficulties either, just more attention to lubrication with coolants or cutting oils.

A36 is better for welding than it is for machining.
carbide does well Vs. A36
