I was turning an $82 piece of ground tool steel and was happy to see that it was good to what my mike said by better than .001". Then I noticed my mike was set to .825" instead of .875". After leaving some fingerprints in my forehead I decided my only option was to make a bushing. I was pretty nervous because I never made a bushing with a .025" wall thickness before. You can bet I snuck up on that dimension but it came out all right. I used 6061 for the bushing.

Glad someone has finally admitted doing this to the public now I don't feel too bad about the TIMES I've done the same thing. Funny thing is I repaired my goof up the same way just fabed a bushing. Another good one is adding a knurl to a pin to get it to fit tight because of a bit oversize hole.

I have a 1" Mitutoyo mechanical digital micrometer that is my go-to. Really like it. But my 3 pc. Starrett set is 70 years old. Came out of a Packard dealership.
