A friend whose family had a shop in Santa Rosa Ca. way back in the day, Crown Machine Works; they had a Garvin milling machine that was set up as the one shown, with a hatch in the wall, so that when the overarm was slid back, it overhung the sidewalk. I suppose that it was customary to set up a sawhorse to partially block off the sidewalk, but one night, he was working late (on the mill) and did not set the sawhorse out ---- in the course of events, he felt the mill shudder, and went out and looked; the theatre had let out, it was dark, and this poor soul ran his head right into the overarm and was prostrate on the sidewalk, out cold! Bill quickly pulled the overarm back in, shut off the lights, closed the hatch and quickly removed himself from the premesis!
