My normal work keeps me very busy.
I usually don’t go out of my way to take on stuff outside my general scope of work .
I have a relatively new customer who entrusted me with the service of his equipment in 2 departments of his grocery store.
I have already saved him thousands of dollars in replacement equipment by repairing a few machines that were deemed to be UNFIXABLE by the manufacturer’s representatives and other service entities.
Not only was I able to perform some control retrofit work and do other magic to make the unfixable work again, but I was able to complete repairs for a fraction of the cost of replacement.
This really makes the manufacturer and the other service entities look really bad.
After pulling a few rabbits out of the hat for the store over the last year,
today the owner asked if I would have a look at his ventilation system for his frying system stating that the guy who was supposed to be working on the ventilation system ghosted during the middle of repair and left the owner hanging.
I asked about a few particulars and agreed to take the project on without knowing exactly what i was stepping into.
I showed up on site and had a look at the situation and took some voltage readings in the control circuit located in the deli department. Good readings- no sparks, no smoke or burned wires- looked good downstairs.
I climbed the ladders to the roof and performed a visual inspection of the fan systems .
One fan had a faulty shut off switch, the other fan had a broken belt.
I had a shut off switch that was compatible with the system and replaced the switch.
No issues.
The belt was a different story.
The belt was an A22 v-belt which is the equivalent to a 4L220.
The belt OD is 22”, which is quite short.
After trying a couple local stores, with no luck- I saw a Harbor Freight.
I remembered that they have Link Belts!!!!
I went in and purchased one and made the length correct.
It was the perfect size, I was able to roll it on and didn’t even have to adjust the tension!!! (this never happens for me, ever!)
I turned on the main power and both fans started working again!
I placed an order for a couple new A22’s to keep in stock for the next calamity!
The owner wasn’t there at the store today, but I’m sure he will give me a call tomorrow!
