I saw this on another forum and it got me curious.

"I don't have confidence to adjust the gibs by feel from lack of experience in doing this. I've seen guys adjust by sliding the table to far end and adjusting the slop (0.0001-0.00015) out. Same way for the y. Does this way have any merit over doing it by feel?

If I tried to do it by feel, I would just remove the handles and bearing brackets off the lead screws?"

So my question to you all is how do you adjust your gibs?

Note:
Most machines are used over a specific area of the tables.
This results in wear over that area.
Thus, the tables eventually get sloppy in that area while the ends remain tight.
Moving to the ends of the table to adjust may result in the centers being sloppy.
Adjusted in the center, results in tight at the ends.
Also, consider backlash which is wear from the lead screw, different from wear on the ways.

I've seen the BP mill gibs for sale but they need to be machine finished.
