Hey, I've got a chucker, and a bunch of terribly inconsistent "square" raw material I need to work with, and I want a chuck that can be air actuated to OPEN, and you release the air to lock it shut that I can install into my manual lathe to speed up part changes. The existing setup is a 4 jaw scroll chuck, and it's just taking too long. Any suggestions?

Northfield makes some nice air operated chucks, but they can be costly. 5C collet can be found in square shapes or an emergency 5C could be machines to fit. 5C with an out side closer like on a hardinge can go up to five inches of need be.

The 5c square collet should have worked, but after having used it, I find the material is not always square or of a consistent size, so using the extant lever collet closer always seems to require fidgeting with the setting on the adjustment nut. Huge hassle. A jaw chuck is a great idea, but slow. I want a faster solution; would be nice over the scroll chuck.
