Hello, at Mark’s request I am posting pics and info to seek assistance in wiring my AB reversing drum switch for my new to me Atlas Clausing 4800 lathe.
As the original motor was inoperative I purchased a 1/2 hp motor that I would like to wire for 220v.
The label inside the housing is near unreadable. Here is pics of the current setup;

The two Yellow wires on top poles 1 and 2 are the motors 8 & 5 reversing wires. I can draw a diagram if that helps. Tks ahead for any help!

Not sure but I think you are missing a contact on that switch- upper left? #6 and the one below it #8 I think-- I only see 5 of the 6 contacts in the off position
We still might be able to use it however
Second thing I notice is the numbering doesn't seem to match the document- yours must be a different series 1 switch. No biggie
I'll sketch it up for either voltage and you can choose which one you want

I’m all set up for 220v. I’d be actually be out $$ to switch back.
Good eye! The upper left switch is soldered closed. I wasn’t sure if that was factory or done along the way.

This should work- note the switch is drawn with handle down as in your photos

Thinner wire would be ok for 1/2 HP @ 220 vac- 16 ga minimum for less than 10'
Swap motor 5 & 8 to invert motor direction if desired
Attach ground wire for switch and motor cases (not shown)

Thank you for the drawing. Did you do that specifically for this case? I would have never guessed T5 to be tied off at the motor.
I will try this and get back to you.

Yep, custom sketch since the AB docs were a little unclear

You can either tie 2, 3 and 5 and bring 8 out
or tie 2, 3 and 8 and bring 5 out- only difference being the motor rotation with respect to the switch handle

I saw some prices for those switches (new old stock) some were asking over a grand! You'd think they were solid gold
