Aluminum Oxide grinding wheel

In my experience, the wheel flanges are the most critical element in a grinding set up. They must orient vertically to the shaft. Anything else will produce a wobble. Flanges are simple to make from Aluminum and luckily most of us have lathes ...

I wouldnt use washers unless they are thick enough to put in the lathe, true and dish out a little.

redvan, bear in mind that the hole in plain washers have a lot of clearance so boring out a smallish washer would give the best fit on the shaft. It would be a great help if the nut is faced square. Ideally it would be a flange style nut.
There must absolutely be a cushioning layer between the washer and the wheel.
