I don't really know for sure where to post this----

SHINDAIWA 680 PISTON & RINGS 008 (4).JPGSHINDAIWA 680 PISTON & RINGS 008 (5).JPGSHINDAIWA 680 PISTON & RINGS 008 (6).JPGSHINDAIWA 680 PISTON & RINGS 008 (7).JPGSHINDAIWA 680 PISTON & RINGS 008 (8).JPGI took a Shindaiwa 680 chainsaw on trade. It wouldn't start and seemed to be a little low on compression.
Upon teardown, I discovered stuck piston rings with slight gauling.
Everything cleaned up really nice and I wanted to replace piston rings.
After exhausting all my parts resources, I decided to modify a new set of rings.
Rings were the right diameter with the correct thickness for piston grooves, but they were too wide (piston grooves weren't deep enough.
I am fortunate enough to have a lathe and decided to grind the inside surface of rings. Could have just ground by hand but decided to do it right

Thanks for sharing this.
