[Newbie] Anti-vibration leveling feet

Thanks, Walter!

Yours is probably a better scenario than mine. I was going for the "easy button." :))

There are other ways to make them, IE flame cut the 3" x 1/4" plate discs, but then turning them to clean them up is a royal pain from the hard spots from flame cutting.

Trepanning the discs, slow but works, etc

Holesaw just works better.

I use a 1-1/8" drill bit that has been reground as a step bit to counterbore the pucks. Drills the through hole and counterbores in one operation. Needs to be sharpened regularly as the rubber wears the tip off the bit, but twerks!

Pucks, they are at Walmart in the sports section for about $0.97 each and at Canadian Tire for just a few pennies more.

Interesting bit about using hockey pucks, I will have to try that when my lathe gets moved in place. Thanks!

Tks! I looked at the hockey pucks and think I'll try them. Before I left for dinner I called the local youth hockey arena. They have a "pro" shop. New black hockey pucks are $1.49 each. Skip the shipping charges and check your arena. Also, the durometer information was helpful. On another note, I saw a design where a carriage bolt sits in the pocket cut out of the puck. Kind of interesting spin on the design. Anyone try it before? Linky: http://dans-woodshop.blogspot.com/2012/02/bench-leveler-feet-mark-ii.html

More ideas: When I went shopping for 5/8" bolts, the threads only went 1/3 of the way on the hex head bolt. No Cap screws in that size either. (thread all the way to the head). Next option was a carriage bolt. Worked perfect. Don't worry about the square part under the head, it bites into the hockey puck and stops the carriage bolt from turning when you tighten the nut. It's quite easy to make adjustments for leveling.

HA! Easy enough for YOU up North ... but I seriously doubt that folks who live in hockey-deprived areas like Arizona will find them in their local Wally World:rofl:

Is it really true that hockey is as much a religion in Canada as football is in Texas? Enquiring minds want to know!

Not entirely sure, only use I have for hockey pucks is to make machinery feet, LOL

However there seems to be many Hockey teams all over Canada, America and many other countries around the world, so I am sure they must be available. Even Sunny California has a hockey team, but not sure how much Ice they have.

Or in Oregon when I was looking at the time... :) They had them as an inexpensive "Add On" item at the time I got this:

At the time they were $6 for four of them but here are a couple now, still not that bad...:

...AND A NOTE to HMAN: The University of Arizona in Tucson has had a "Hockey" team since 1978, and a very successful one at that. Among others, their annual competitors include "Arizona State University" in Phoenix (which I'm sure you've heard of), and "Northern Arizona University" in Flagstaff.
Puck on!

Come to think of it, I do believe I've heard vague rumors about an ASU hockey team. Just haven't heard of any sources of used pucks. Hockey in Flagstaff isn't really surprising ... drove through there about 2 weeks ago, and it was COLD and snowy. Tucson, on the other hand, is a surprise!

Anyway, I guess I'll have to do some more digging.
