I picked up a 1996 Model Atlas mini Mill. Motor is bad. This is what I would call an early X-2 Mill without a fine feed. The rest of the mill seems to be in good condition but needs a motor. I am considering converting it to CNC. The original motor was 500 Watts and 4000 rpm. Going to 3 phase with a VFD seems like overkill for this size mill. Just looking for some good sources of DC brushless motors. I could be wrong on the 3 Phase AC motor because the only experience I have with 3 Phase is on larger machines, Bridgeport, Etc. I have a larger Mill and a CNC Router but a small CNC Mill would be handy. I don't want to convert the larger mill to CNC. Work envelope on the Atlas is only 4" in the Y and 9" in the X, good for small parts.
Thanks

There's a "sewing machine" type of motor on Ebay, it's brushless and comes with a controller- about 100$ I think
I forget the wattage but it's at least 500 IIRC

this is one of them: Be careful, some are apparently 220 volt only
