as promised on a previous thread here is the lathe i picked up this morning in Conn.
by the photos that were sent to me i figured it was a barnes, hoping it was a no. 4 1/2 but upon closer inspection
(in Conn.) i realized it was a bit larger...oh well.
i was planning to tool up my barnes 4 1/2 with this purchase but all is well as i am going to keep this one intact and restored.
it has a crappy light colored paint job which i will remove and repaint a proper black.
the spindle has no movement that i can detect by lifting the chuck but i will eventually test with an indicator.
its in decent shape for its age and will be taken care of from here on out.

tomorrow morning i am going to New Bedford to pick up the W.P. Davis machine co. lathe!
stay tuned...don't touch that dial

That machine looks to be in good shape and with many accessories. Congrats!

thanks guys;
removed the jacobs chuck from the tail stock this morning, a slight tussle but i won!
its a no. 3 pat. 1902 in good shape but theres a mystery here , the stem is neither a number 1 or 2 morse taper, its somewhere in between .
this mystery size (to me) fits both the tail stock and spindle taper.
any one know what this size is ?

thanks for heading me in the right direction brino;
my measurements are .479 small end, .605 large end and length of 2.54
so this brings me close to a #6 B&S if i account for wear.
i recon this old girl has some high milage wear and tare.
