To all my West Coast brothers and sisters. Be safe everyone.

Fire activity exploded yesterday and overnight with hot dry windy conditions. More friends evacuated last night in southern Oregon. A fire that started at the north end of Ashland raced through the towns of Talent and Phoenix up to Medford. Unknown how many homes and business lost. Heartbreaking.

Satellite image of the smoke over the west coast this morning. Sun is blocked out here in the SF Bay Area with ash falling. Feels like an eclipse.

It does feel like an eclipse, I overslept by an hour it was so dark out

Your first picture is amazing. Three days ago, utah was sitting at 101 degrees and 10 mile visibility from the California fires. Yesterday, a north wind registering 99 MPH dropped us down to 38 degrees over night. It tore trees out and knocked power out for hundreds of thousands and damaged homes and vehicles. Our virtual (online) schools were scheduled to start yesterday, but the power outages have forced closures there, too. This year feels like the Mayans were 8 years off (2012, anyone?).

We can either laugh or cry, and then pick up the pieces of what we have left and help any neighbors who need it. Take time to check on your neighbors (weird statement coming from an anti-social guy).
