The bearings on my screw log splitter were getting loose and needed replacement.

The original bearings were stamped steel housed garage door bearings. I didn't want to replace them with the same so I cut out the old tube that the bearings were pressed it and made a new one.

I had a piece of 3-1/2" DOM tubing that I machined for the new tube.

The new bearings are insert bearings and should last the rest of my life time.

The frame needed to be bored out for the new larger tube.

I also added a keyway to the shaft and driveshaft yoke. The way it was just driving it off a bolt thru them it would work loose sometimes.

It's all back together and ready to tackle my pile of logs.

This thing will split a 30" dia. by 18" long round in seconds.

Looks like those bearings put up with a lot of use and abuse. You should have a video of that thing.
