I am looking at acquiring a Bison C5 chuck. There looks to be two options. A D-5 integrated chuck and a chuck plain back and a D-5 back plate. What say ye of the Bison C5 owner?

I don't own one but C5 & D-5? I assume you mean 5C collet chuck & you have a D1-5 spindle? (jmwy) :)

Although with quality manufacturers the runout should be low with a integrated mount but if I were to buy a 5C chuck I would go with a Set-Tru. Or to save money a plain back & make it a "Tap-Tru". But really if I were to go with 5C I'd like to have a collet closer instead. I miss using one.

I have a cam lock spindle & the only accessory I have that is integral mount is a 4-jaw chuck. Cause it really doesn't matter being indie & less weight/overhang. Weight/overhang is not a concern on a 5C chuck.

I had a Bison 5C collet chuck with a removable back plate on a cam lock spindle, and it was just fine.

I have the D1-4 Bison set -tru, great 5C chuck, a little more expensive than the TMX. Quality wise also a bit better fit and finish then the TMX, but both are very good. I recommend a 1/64th collet set, the one from QMT tools is pretty decent, there are a few other vendors.

TMX 5C set-tru type chuck, a bit cheaper than the Bison, still very good quality. Small Tools has probably the best pricing on chucks.

Bison is about $150 more with back plate.

I made a speed handle for mine which makes changing collets quick.

Thanks for the links. I did buy the QMT 1/64ths collet set. Nice speed handle.
