New to forum and hoping for some help! I have been searching this and other forums for any printed factory manuals for a 6-18 manual grinder. I am somewhat surprised that I have had no luck so far. I have found a few things but none to my specific grinder. Until I find a manual I am beginning the tear down as best as I can. Going well until I got to the wheel for the vertical adjustment. After removing the grub screw I cannot remove the wheel. Learned long ago sometimes a bigger hammer is not better! Trying to figure out if it is screwed or pressed on.

Any help is appreciated!

Is there a second grub screw in the hole? Load it up with your favourite penetrating oil and leave it for a day or two. Warm the hub with a hot air gun.

Good luck. I refurbished an Ingar 6-18 and I am having a lot of fun learning to use it. One thing I have learned is that there is much more to achieving good results with a surface grinder that what I thought at first (in fact that's been the case with nearly everything in my life).

Hello. Those are hardened bolt on ways. Do not remove them as they would warp. Clean around the handle shaft and see if there is a set screw too...or a double set screw. If not use 2 small chisels and drive them in at 180 deg. to each other and see what happens. before assembling it take it off the skid.

Thanks for the reply. I will check to see if there is a second screw in the hole. Now that I think of it there were several like that when I rebuilt my Bridgeport. I soaked it down with my acetone/trans fluid before leaving the shop tonight.

No plans to remove the ways. They actually look pretty good. Already tried the dual chisel trick with no luck. Will look for the second screw tomorrow. This is a total tear down so the pallet won’t survive!

Turns out that there was a roll pin in the shaft 90 degrees to the set screw. Wheel came right off. Here are a couple of pics of the progress. Does anyone have any information on removing the two large beams that the spindle/motor asy rides on?
