Hi all, I just joined this group. I just picked up two Boyer Schultz Surface Grinder‘s, a 618 and a 612. Got a smoking deal on them but the 618 had a completely wiped bearing or bushing where the handwheel meets the saddle. I was able to remove the handwheel but was not able to remove the toothed drive gear from the smaller shaft. It appears that there’s a needle bearing at the rear by the drive gear but I have no idea whether it was a bearing or a bushing at the front as it is no longer there. Not sure how to remove it but I know that I’ll have to remove that toothed gear. I would appreciate any info re removal. Does anybody have a parts breakdown for this assembly? I’d like to know what bearings/bushings/O-rings that I need to source. Thanks in advance, Don

The shaft on my 612 looks to be similar. Had to make a new one as mine was bent. Pretty sure that a taper pin holds the gear onto the inner shaft.

On my Ingar 618, the shaft was bent and the hand wheel was damaged (which put it in my price range - another project machine). I ordered a piece of hardened chrome shafting - the needle bearings run directly on the shaft (needles both ends, 16mm). It took some time to get the material and a chore to machine for the gear and where the handwheel goes - a good result in the end.
