I also use a magnet which is stuck on the lower right hand nut to pivot the head. The quill lock lever when in the up position (unlocked) does not budge works great. The brass wedge in the rear could be worn to the point that it’s maxed out stuck in bore putting resistance on quill.

Thanks we're making new parts left hand threaded that should solve the issue.

are just not understood by the poor majority of people!

I am also left handed.... the quill lock is on the right side, so I use my right hand, as I do for the quill lever. The quill feed wheel gets run with my left hand.
I wasn’t suggesting that anyone switch handedness.
