My SB9 lathe made a very loud hum when I turned it on. I could give the pulley a push, and it would spin up, no issues.
So my guess (hope) was just a bad starter cap.
See pics - I think it is the cap. When I removed it, without pulling too hard, the top plug popped out. Doesn't look very good.
I can't quite make out the rating. 110V, yes. Maybe 120ufd, maybe 180ufd? So as I recall, I can go with a cap of equal or higher voltage. Same thing for the capacitance? Maybe go with a 200ufd? This is small, approximately 1.5" diameter and approximately 3.5" tall.
Motor is 1/3HP, as per the pics. (Delta/Rockwell/Marathon...interesting)
If anyone has found a good source that may work for me, please post!
Thanks in advance,
-Tom
