I've got a old GE 115/230 volt single phase, 1.5 hp, 1725 rpm electric motor. Can anyone tell me what start and run capacitors I need?

for starting somewhere between 30 and 50 UF per HP is sufficient, so for your 1.5 hp motor i'd consider somewhere between 60 and 100 uf start cap 250v rating or higher.
for run 10- 20 uf per hp is generally ok, so i'd consider a 15 or 20 uf oil filled run cap for your motor run cap. 250v rating or higher

Thanks for the above info. The old motor I have doesn't have any capacitors in it at the moment. There are 4 wires with connectors to attach to the terminals of the capacitors, 2 on each I suppose. Is there any way to tell which of the wires to attach to which posts on the capacitors. The wires have numbers on each one.

the pair that has the highest resistance, will be the start cap leads

So Mike I look for the two with the highest resistance and hook them up to the start capacitor and the other two go to the run capacitor?
