after looking at various carriage lock videos, decided i should have one to better stabilize for parting or facing. locking with power feed off and using feed screw only locks in one direction and not to the lathe bed. used a spacer that was not necessary when the qc tool holder was installed . some grinding was needed to make it fit between the ways.then drilled and tapped 5/16 24 . then a relief sized hole through the carriage and further relief for the head of an allen head cap screw. very simple but works very well . about 1/3 turn will lock and unlock the carriage. when locked it is rock solid .

Pics on the way?

Nice job! Wished my mini-lathe looked that clean! My lathe bench and mini-lathe are a total disaster right now.

Do you use an Allen key to lock/unlock?
I though a short piece (L) shaped welded to the bolt might be more convenient.

I do use an allen key . the red and the grey handles behind the lathe are them. Strangley enough the size of the socket is not an exact fit with either metric or us sized wrenches .??? but a metric fits close enough.
