I am just about to the point I will cerakote the suppressor I am building. I was trying to plan out the process so I didn't coat the machined mating surfaces, endcaps and threads. I thought about doing it all assembled with the endcap bores plugged but wondered if that would 'glue' the endcaps in place. Coating them apart might leave overspray on the machined mating surfaces. Should I try something like paste car wax on the surfaces I don't want the coating to stick?

What is the best plan of attack?

Masking tape? Better yet, parkerize it.

17-4PH mount and 2024-t3 aluminum tube and endcap...

Masking those thin mating surfaces would be...difficult I think.

I grease what I don’t want paint to stick on,

Nope, not gonna park that.......I'd go with the paste wax.

If you spray the Cerakote as designed you shouldn’t have any interference issues on the parts. Done it many times, no issues yet.

What he said. Cerakote sprays on very thin. You can burnish it with steel wool when you're done if it is tight.
