In the process of retro fitting my shop lights I came across one that I decided to do up with T8 because I had a new ballast and a pack of tubes laying around.

It's one of those flimsy ones with transformers at both ends and some sort of electronics spliced into two wires in the center.
'Lights of America' Model #8045
The 'Hot' leg was exposed, the tape was loose and the bare portion was open.
Lower left corner. Sorry that the picture isn't better.

On a positive note, I had another of the same make/model over in a corner.
Pulled it down last night. Plan on converting it to the Toggled LEDs.
It was a bit better... Still nothing to write home to Mother about though, IMO.

Lights of America... ah yes, that reminds me of a story...

Back when compact fluorescent screw-in bulbs were a thing, I had a few lamps using the above brand. One day I was at my desk working on the computer and saw something move out the corner of my eye. It was a wisp of smoke rising above the lamp. Looking inside, there was a very small flame(!) right where the glass tube entered the plastic housing. This lamp of course was surrounded by paperwork, and to this day, I wonder what would have happened had I not been in the room. Yeah, they all got thrown out that same day.
