Chinese 4 X 6 horizontal bandsaw question

Mmmmm. Stale grease. Yummy.

I know exactly what you are talking about cbrasher. My HF 4x6 saw is not that old but there is some slop in the pivot and I too am pondering whether the pivot point is straight. It seems try as I might, the chance of getting a straight cut are dubious at best. I am thinking about re-doing mine, but I have too much other stuff going on. My best solution is to sell it and buy a 7x12 saw. ;)

Yeah, that gets expensive fast! Anyone notice all the saw heads look to be made in the same place, right down to the cast in lines indicating direction of travel?

Here's some more pics of the beast.

You can see the gap appear as I raise the saw.

Wow. Yeah, that is a lot. Looks like some re-engineering is in order.

I think you are correct about them all being made in the same factory, or at least in the same Chinese province. My red one cost about $200. If you buy the cream colored Jet, they are $400.

I have noticed the only real difference between the Grizzly and the Shop Fox is the warranty is doubled to two years.

In looking at it, to rebore it would probably require a mill and a precision 90° plate to clamp it to by the work surface. I don't know much about it, but it makes the most sense to me. Also sounds like more than the saw is worth......

I would consider making a set of "ears" that the pivot bar would go through, and those "ears" would bolt to the cast iron saw base. The existing pivot points would need to be removed to make way for the new pivots. Just a thought.

I had run that through my head as well. I think I would still need to mill the other ears off after setting some kind of level off the table though, right?
