I got busy over the past week. I copied these table clamps from Mike's workshop. The only difference is I drilled the hinge hole and cut the slit at a slight angle, so that they press down when used.

In order to cut the slit, I need a slitting saw. Bought a metal cutting saw blade for $20 off Amazon. Turned the threads off a large he'd head bolt, turned the head down to a tight fit for the blade, and then tapped the head side for a screw. Turned a socket down for them cap. Works perfectly when chucked in an ER32 collet.KIMG0508.JPG

You could have bought a REAL slitting saw and not have ended up with catty wumpus slots.

What does "catty wumpus" mean? They are straight and smooth. They look a little off, because the clamps are pictured in the "extended" state. It is only 1/16" or so of travel, but you start by pushing the clamp against the workpiece, so very little is needed.
