Changing my Dads 12x36” lathe from standard to advance model. Need two items to complete.

1 - Need a 7/8” diameter lead screw for QCGB with later style apron.

2 - Need gear train cover for QCGB model

I am not familiar with the lathe but you might be able to make a lead screw from a length of an appropriate acme all-thread stock. One source is:

Is ALL Acme thread rod the same or are there different grades?

There may be different grades available. I think the better stuff is ground instead of rolled but I am not sure if that is available over the counter.

McMaster is another source, they list theirs as "thread class 2G":

I don't think Clausing used anything that special in their lead screws.

One other thing to think about... If the leadscrew needs a long keyway you might need access to a full sized milling machine (of better). I know my 5914 uses the keyway to drive the auto feed (leadscrew threads are only used for threading operations with the half nut).

Thank you for the help.

For the gear cover, thinking using 6" well casing for radius and go from there.

I found a lead screw from a Clausing 5904 and retro it
