I recently purchased a 15x48 Clausing/Colchester Series 6000 lathe with a two-speed motor. I am in the process of tearing it apart for cleaning and repainting. The machined surfaces appear to be in very good condition for a lathe that was manufactured in the 60's. There were leaks on the headstock casing, change gear casing and carriage gearbox, so I would like to address these. I have a manual but it does not provide specifics to my satisfaction.

Here are some of my questions:

1. What is the procedure for removing the lead and spline screws?
2. What type of gasket should I use on the gear box?
3. The tumbler arm appears to have (2) 1/4-20 locating screws that appear to be stuck. How best to remove these?
4. Where can purchase ball oilers

The oilers are also called button oilers Google throws up several sources.

McMaster sells them, too. I would suggest replacing them with Gits oil cups where practical. Those ball oilers hardly ever get oiled in use. Ken
