Ok, I bought this lathe about 20 years ago or so, it has done well for what I have asked of it. Anyway, it finally threw the belts off (I'm pretty sure they are original) while chambering a barrel. No big deal. I am going to replace all the belts, but you darn near disassemble this machine to do it (under-drive). I got it apart and then continued a bit further for clean up. My question is, when I start assembling, what would you recommend for assembly lube?
My Clausing manual says 20W oil for lube.
I'm an old performance engine assembler from years gone by and I was thinking about using assembly lube, but, the sun has set a few times since then and my mind is not as sharp as it used to be.
Does anyone have any recommendations for what lubricant to use for assembly? How about for the open gears?
I use white oil for running lubrication, any other suggestions?
Thanks All

I can't keep the sun from setting on me regularly and waay to many times.
