Some stuff is done on a CNC, like cutting the wheels teeth, crossing the wheels, the contour shape on flat parts.
Basically, the CNC is good to tackle the repetitive, boring jobs.
Like, after shaping the cutter, making the CNC code and setting up everything just right, the CNC takes care of the cutting (index blank by angle, advance cutter, traverse face of blank, retract bit, repeat nTooth * DeptStep times, until final depth is reached) .
Or the job of sawing plate/sheet stock to shape. After the CNC, long hours of file/emery/sandpaper is required.
The fusee, this one is been made entirely on a manual lathe. Today most of the material was removed just by cutting at a angle with the compound slide. Then a curve, or segment of a circle, was cut using the tool post pivot as a center and swinging the tool by hand.
