I'm trying to take apart the compound on my 1945, 10" lathe for cleaning. I got it down to removing the compound screw. The manual shows a screw to remove the bushing, but I can not find a screw. There is a detent ball. I pushed it in and can't figure out how to remove the bushing. I see I have the same thing on carriage unit, on ine the cross feed bushing, which is what I'm taking apart next.

Any help appreciated.

If it's A ? I have a 10L w taper, drop the apron first or your gears are screwed.

On the cross feed screw, there is a hub just inside the compound housing that is secured in place with a set screw. Back out the set screw about two turns, leave allen wrench in the set screw, and start backing out the compound screw. The hub is threaded onto the screw. You may have to back off the set screw a little more if necessary. This is the only way the feed screw can be removed. Ken
