I'm working on a milling attachment and need to know more about the angled rods that are under the grub screws as I need to make another set for the project. Are they hardened or is mild steel okay? Some thing I read lead me to believe they are hardened but I can't tell for sure.

hardened or not,
mild steel would be fine, i have even heard of bronze being used too

Mine were soft. They are not the weak point! It is the lower swivel itself that can break when stressed too much. I had the Carriage turret double tool cross slide part # 671A which used with my Palmgren 250V for some light milling. As seen on page 19. This eliminated the possibility of breaking the lower swivel. Also useful for mounting angle plates etc as well.

Here's the finished product. Mild steel grub screw pads. Can't wait to try it out.
