Compressor leaks down..... grrrr

This is probably the fault of not draining the tank regularly. Your air tools will also suffer if water gets to them, so a water separator somewhere in the out line is a good idea.

Another vote to check the drain petcock. I hate those valves and replaced mine with a elbow, tubing and a ball valve, to run it out from under the tank where it's easy to get to and drain often.

You mean like this Chris? I used pipe, but tubing will work also.

Yeah, like that. I said tubing, but meant pipe. The proper word did not come to mind. Mine isn't that fancy. I still have to bend down to ground level to operate my valve. :)

Tired of bending over to drain your compressor tank? Try one of these:

You can pull the cable straight out or sideways in any direction to drain the tank. The cable end can be mounted where it is convenient to get to. The cable end is anchored and you just pull anywhere on the cable, No more bending over and crawling underneath to get to the valve! These are quite common on trucks. The pictured one is an eBay import, no experience with them. Bendix and Haldex make good, high quality ones:

I don't know Bob. It looks like it'd leave quite the mess on the floor. I can get quite a bit of water to drain from the tank sometimes.

I have found that quick connects on hoses are prone to very slow leaks. On the out put of my tank I installed a ball valve. When it's closed the tank will not run down but when it's open the compressor will start up about once every 24 hours.

I have an old one where the check valve to the head pressure release was bad, Also had an electric one where it had it build into the preasure regulator and it leaked. And never leve a tool/blow gun etc pluged into a hose. I think they all leak some. Have had a problem with the drains as well. Installed a 90 degee and some flex line with a ball valve can't stand on my head any more.

I made a long handle for a ball valve on the drain - it is now a "toe" valve! No bending over, just tap it with my toe.

These cable drains are actually on Class 1 trucks to drain the air tanks. I had one of these on mine, and like another post said it was messy.
