Dazed and Confused - About Capacitators

The only way to tell is to plug it in . If it starts and runs you don't need one. If it just hums un do plug quickly it needs one. Now some capacitors are even inside the bell housing of the electric motors . Most smaller brush motors don't require capacitors. If you motors capacitor is just hanging not fastened to the motor , I think something fishy is going on. Yes treat them like they can bite or kill in some extreme cases. Now at times in my much younger days we would charge small ones and throw to someone to catch. If your lucky you don't get bite. I'm not lucky.

Omg. You guys are so wise and awesome! Thanks for all the info :)
Knowledge is power - pun intended, lol
