How's it going. ..I am looking to buy a new lathe for my hobby gunsmithing.

The ones I am currently looking at are all pm. I'm looking at 1236 preferred
1340 gt , 1440bv or 1440e-lb

I'm looking for as much input as I can get as well as any other suggestions.......I'm trying to keep my price point at about $6000 or less

That's interesting, no opinions on this one. That is a bit unusual here. I wish I could help you out, but I know nothing about the machines you list.

I think Ray C is your guy! Sorry. Maybe a PM over to him. a PM consultant and all around guru on anything which spins and cuts.

They are all precision Matthews machines. But I'm open to any suggestions as well

Get one of his TAIWAN made lathes if you possibly can do so.

Not familiar with Matthews Precision Lathes. From the looks of the website 1236 is similar to my ENCO. Lots of room between centers and a spindle bore big enough for nearly all barrel diameters. When i was looking a few years ago, Grizzly had something they marketed as a gunsmith lathe. You could compare that to the MP 1236 and see how it stacks up.

Sorry i don't have any real advice to give, Good Luck.
