That pattern is done with a single wheel bump knurler if I recall correctly. The wheel has essentially a normal diamond knurl, which embosses a inverse of itself on the workpiece.
I believe that it is rolled into the head of the screw, a bit like a rolled thread on a bolt. It would take a large amount of pressure to emboss steel like that. Far more than simple knurling. Certainly visually impressive !
