I made a simple headspace gauge for installing a 45 conversion barrel to a Mauser action. Final length was done by stoning a few tenths off.

Very fine work to be sure. I’m wondering, were you making a go or no go gauge? But I think do it yourself headspace gauges for straight sided low-pressure pistol rounds a safe, I don’t think I would want to risk it for a shoulder case high pressure rifle

I have made my own headspace gauge for 270 and 257 Roberts but I had a combination headspace case length gauge to start with. I have thought of ways to build a headspace gauge starting from scratch. I might try it to see if I can get close. Wildcats pose another problem without SAAMI standardizing the dimensions.

Chiroone,

I made my gauge shorter than a no-go gauge so I could turn the barrel until it contacted and then torque the lock ring.
