Greetings to All,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post.

I recently acquired a 1966 PBR (Perico Baroni & Raimondi ) Lathe.
As you can probably tell, it's made in Italy.
This particular model is a WESCO 12".
The lathe is a 12" x 40" with a L0 Spindle.
It has 12 speeds (33 - 1500 RPM) and can cut inch and metric threads.
It has a two speed motor (5HP/3HP), 220 VAC, 3 Phase.
This is a real step up from my Atlas 10 x 36.

I had to do a lot of searching on the internet to find any information on it.
Apparently, these are few and far between in the U.S.
PBR is out of business but there is a company in Italy that still supports them.
They were kind enough to email me a parts manual and a operators manual in English.
I have painted it and made a few minor repairs and adjustments and it is now ready to be moved to its permanent position in the shop.

I have not been able to find anyone else that has one of these lathes.
PBR made mostly large (40" + swing) long bed and CNC lathes.
This is one of the smallest ones they made.

I am looking for any other PBR owners so I can swap lies :)

Best Regards,

Great looking machine. Are you planning on putting on a QCTP, or is it just not on the lathe? I imagine it will be a huge
step up from your Atlas. Let us know how it goes when you power it up, and welcome to the forum!

Nogoingback,

Thanks for the kind words.
I look forward to start using it as soon as I get back from vacation.
I am far from home and bored silly - I miss my workshop. :(
Please forgive my novice machinist knowledge - What is QCTP ??

I just noticed that there was no toolpost on your compound. If you've been using a lantern style tool post like this:

you would benefit by considering the Quick Change. The advantages of using one are that tool height adjustment is
quick and easy, and as the name implies, tool changes are easy to make as well.
A 12" machine like yours would probably use an AXA or BXA size post. As Brino said, the vertical distance from the
top of the compound to the spindle centerline determines which you would use.

Oops, looks like we were typing at the same time. Well, at least you don't have to go out and buy one.

Nogoingback,

Thanks for the info.
I should have known what QCTP was in the first place.
I will blame it on a cerebral malfunction.

Hi BE Zero, welcome to the site , nice lathe , I have the same tool post on my logan lathe . Nice post but finding holders is a bit of a search. I'm planning on building some in the future if I get my spine fixed up.

SilverBullet,
Fontana tool holders are few and far between.
Even on eBay.
I will watch for your post when you go into production :)
