Personally, I prefer HSS dovetail cutters, they cut more freely due to sharper edges and feed much faster because of many more teeth.

Very similar to the one I made some years ago. I'm using it now to make a couple more QCTP holders. I really like the finish I'm getting.

Love the German Shepherds! They are my breed of choice and I have one laying here next to me now.

Nice video. I made one of those a while back, but I agree with John and prefer HSS cutters with multiple, sharper teeth. I use the one I made for roughing and a HSS one for finishing.

Each has its' place. The exercise of making tools is the pinnacle of machining.

Since you fit one insert into the cutter beautifully, do you think you could do the same thing and mount two or three inserts to the cutter? I have one precious HHS dovetail cutter that I want to keep in one piece, so an insert cutter would probably make a great rougher.
