Here's a real noob question for ya'll. I have a Craftsman 101.12400 and would like to know if a drum switch be used to reverse a 110v single phase motor?

Thank you,
John

I believe if the motor plate says it is a reversible it can.

Yes if the motor can be reversed. But wtch running that lathe in reverse. The chuck is right hand thread and can come unscrewed in reverse.

Thanks for the reminder about the chuck, I'm still getting used to the idea that it screws on and off. I purchased this lathe in order to custom build threaded shafts, some are metric. I found the design for a hand crank in order to turn it in reverse so I may just stick with that.

Thanks,
John

As stated before, not all motors are reversible. If the nameplate says to inter change two wires to change the direction you can add a drum switch and wire it to achieve FWD / OFF / REV. There are many wiring diagrams to suit your situation. Remember, for a single phase motor, you have to let the motor come to a stop before it will reverse direction.
