I have modified the tailstock on my Lathe to take a standard Morse No2 instead of the No 1 Morse which is a bit restrictive and limiting for drilling and reaming especially. I have bored out the original casting to one inch diameter instead of the 7/8 inch standard which gives enough material for a larger Morse taper. at the same time it has been extended a small amount to give more drilling depth and as I have screw cut the main thread to 0.100 pitch instead of 0.125 originally I incorporated an adjustable dial on the handwheel as well. I had to modify a few parts like making a new pair of retaining segments and the location key as well as the spindle clamp shaft but nothing to onerous.
