I have what I believe is an Enco RF-30. I cannot find any identification except that it has an Enco , Fernley, Nevada label.
From photographs in a manual I found on this site it appears to be identical.

The manual instructs to "fill the lubricant" before use.
Is there an oil reservoir that I cannot find a fill plug for?
Or are they just talking about lubricating places like the traverse screws?

Also, the spindle is hard to raise and lower. The lock is loose.
Any idea what would cause that?

Thanks

RF-30/31 is not a gear head mill, there is no oil reservoir unless yours has a one shot lube system.

When my Jet 15's spindle gets hard to raise and lower cleaning the outside of gunk always fixes it.

There are oil ports that look like a little plate with a bb in it on the front and back of the table and on the bearing housings where the cranks for X & Y wheels are that you need a good pump type oil can with some way oil in it. The spindle takes spindle oil. The Y axis ways should get a squirt on both sides and front and back with way oil too.

What is "way oil"? Is it a certain viscocity?
And you mention "spindle oil", what is that?
How do you apply the spindle oil?

If you go down the page there's the "frequently bought together" with way oil, spindle oil and a good oil can to pump it in properly. The link ishere

The spindle takes spindle oil.
@C-Bag, not disagreeing with you here but since the spindle on an RF mill runs in bearings that are greased, spindle oil would not be used there, right? Are you perhaps saying we should use spindle oil on the quill? If so, wouldn't plain hydraulic oil suffice?

I ask because I use hydraulic oil on my quill and it seems to work fine but I'm willing to change to spindle oil if there is an advantage.

Yep, you are right Mikey, quill not spindle. I bought the two spindle and way oils at the same time because that's what seemed to be the consensus was and everything has been fine since. My quill seems to work much better than when I got it. And I never see it running dry so as a noob I have nothing to compare it too. Thanks for clarifying my slip.

Okay, thank you for clarifying, Sir. It appears that spindle oil is a low viscosity hydraulic oil. Been thinking about trying synthetic hydraulic oil for lubing my machines, specifically Monolec Industrial oil. Supposedly lubes better and reduces rust formation. Have to do more research on it but it looks good.
